Feeling down about Tim's triumphant announcement about the bid for offshore gas? The bidding results are not the cause for joy the Premier's claims. The Premier's desire for new offshore gas development is as shaky - and risky - as his onshore gas hopes. Bids on two parcels were received from one company, Inceptio. No bids were received on the other 11 parcels.
The Halifax Examiner provides some insight into the bids and Inceptio.
"Those two bids from a lone and obscure company are in stark contrast to the Sable Offshore Energy Project that operated from 1999 to 2018. That project was operated by a consortium of some of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, including ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, and Imperial Oil, among others. Notably, none of those established and heavy-hitting corporations were interested in the recent bidding opportunity.
“Inceptio Oil and Gas, led by Nova Scotian James Edens, has stepped forward with bids on two parcels in the latest call for bids. They believe in Nova Scotia. And they’re willing to invest more than $210 million,” wrote Houston.
"Early this morning, the LinkedIn page said Edens was living in Aberdeen, Scotland. After Houston’s press release was published, the LinkedIn page was edited to say he is a resident of “Canada,” no city named.
"Inceptio has no web page. There’s no indication who is financing the offshore drilling operation."
A reader comment points out that in Endole Open, Inceptio is listed as having 2 officers/directors and its Confirmation Statement 2022- 2025 has its total assets at 50K; total liabilities 30K. ... Inceptio is listed as a “private company” and is a “Scottish company”. Question for the Premier might be-‘how does such a company come up with the tens of millions it claims it is willing to invest if its financial statements resemble the cash, equity, debt statement of a nascent food truck operation?
There needs to be a bond requirement in the terms going forward to ensure proper, immediate clean up so it's not left to the taxpayer! There needs to be a shift AWAY from oil!!- Submitted by
