New Davit Wharf Construction – Canadian Coast Guard Academy

Canadian Coast Guard Academy (formerly Canadian Coast Guard College) intends to construct a new davit wharf structure. The new wharf will be of pile construction with a concrete deck measuring approximately 18.30 m (north–south length) × 12.20 m (east–west length). The top of deck is +3.60 m, with the underside of pile cap at +2.55 m. The foundation comprises 18 steel pipe piles Ø610 mm × 12.7 mm wall, (footprint of ~5.3 m2) socketed into bedrock to EL -10.50 m (minimum); pile jackets protect the upper piles to about EL -2.00 m. Four piles (W, X, Y, Z) are BATTERED (3V:1H) for lateral resistance and fourteen piles (A1–A5, B1, B2, B4, B5, C1–C5) are PLUMB (vertical). No dredging is anticipated. The steel pipe piles will be installed to bedrock and socketed; the reinforced pile caps and concrete deck will then be constructed. The wharf face will include timber fender piles and timber sheathing, a galvanized steel wheel guard, and ladders, mooring cleats, and lighting/ shore‑power; an aluminum ramp gangway will connect the existing access wharf to the new deck. Davit anchorage bases will be installed on the deck to receive boat‑hoist equipment used for training operations. Construction access may be by barge and crane or from land, or temporary access road, at the contractor's discretion
